Introduction
John Hanock was a Boston-born merchant who became heavily involved in the patriot movement when rebellion began to spread in Massachusetts. He was a rich man and could have rode out the war safely in England or elsewhere. However, he chose to stay and take a stand against notion of being ruled by a government in which you are not represented.
Just before and during the American Revolution, John Hancock was one of the most wanted men in the colonies. Nonetheless, he never faltered. After the war, he became the first governor of Massachusetts who was not a subject of England's king.
