Although Rhode Island may be the smallest state in the union it has the longest name as it is officially known as The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. With over 400 miles of coastline, atteactions like the Newport Cliffwalk, Providence Waterfire, and the coastal Mansions open for touring, Rhode Island has plenty to offer.
Rhode Island also enjoys playing a unique part in history having been the first state to declare independence from Great Britain on 4 May 1176. JFK and Jaqueline Bouvier married in Newport, and Rhode Island hosted the America's Cup sailing race for 53 years. Whatever your looking for, the "littlest big" in the union likely has it.
